Patrick Willis was born in Tennessee and grew up in abject poverty. Patrick’s mother abandoned him at the age of four. No running water until the age of eight. He had to take care of his younger siblings and by the age of 10, he worked full-time in the cotton fields. At age 17, he left his home, a double-wide in a trailer park with his brothers and sister when his alcoholic father turned increasingly violent. The siblings moved in with Patrick's high school basketball coach Chris Finley, and his wife, Julie. Their love and dedication to the children has led Patrick to refer to them as mom and dad to this day. Patrick believes his upbringing as a youth made him into the hard-working and humble person he is today.
