Ed Sheeran sang her to sleep - Family of Irish teen Triona grateful for final moments as her wish is granted. Singer Ed Sheeran helped to fulfill Triona Priestley's final wish on Sunday, serenading the Dublin teen over the phone.
Priestley, who had been battling cystic fibrosis since childhood, passed away minutes after receiving the call. Sheeran sang the 15-year-old's favorite song, "Little Bird," as she listened on.This touching exchange was made possible by a Twitter campaign. When Priestley's health took a dramatic turn earlier in the week, family and friends logged on and posted Tweets directed at Sheeran with the hashtag #SongForTri. By Sunday night the hashtag was trending on Twitter, with thousands of users trying to contact the singer.
Triona, who was seriously ill and in her final stages of battling cystic fibrosis, revealed her dying wish was to hear from her favourite singer Ed Sheeran last week. Following her death yesterday, Triona's brother Colm thanked everyone who started and supported the #SongForTri campaign. "Myself and my family would like to thank Ed Sheeran and everyone who started and supported the #SongForTri campaign," he told independent.ie. "What they gave us and her was a beautiful last moment together. Triona slipped into a sleep as Ed was singing to her and passed away shortly afterwards.
