Henna Heals
May 20, 2014
Henna Heals is an organization that uses all-natural ingredients and artistry to help women cope with hair loss. The organization was started by Francis Darin in 2011 in Toronto. The once small group of volunteers that made up Henna Heals soon grew to a community of about 150 artists worldwide. The artists use henna to paint beautiful designs along clients' heads. The designs are temporary, lasting only about two weeks.
Many of Henna Heal's clients are people with alopecia, a non-life-threatening autoimmune disease that cases hair loss. Other clients are cancer patients that have lost hair due to chemotherapy treatment.
The head tattoos help clients feel more comfortable with their hair loss. The "The application of the henna felt very therapeutic, not unlike having a massage," says Jana Buhlmann. "My sense of self was very strong afterward: I was compelled to take selfies until the stain faded."
